MARION, formerly known as the ACT Writers Centre, has been serving and supporting writers in the region since 1995. Over this period, numerous writers have been helped on their writing and publishing career through the broad and varied range of services, professional programs and support offered by MARION. It is no easy challenge to successfully cater for writers at all stages of their career across the spectrum of writing genres. A number of the members are editors and manuscript reviewers as well as writers; the two skillsets complementing each other.
Katy Mutton is the CEO of MARION, a literary arts not-for-profit organisation based in the ACT. She is a fervent advocate for the arts, dedicated to empowering writers to build sustainable and fulfilling careers. She strongly believes in the transformative potential of mentorship and the value of cultivating strong networks to foster creativity. With a specialised focus on the arts, Katy has extensive expertise in program development and communication strategy honed through her tenure in the non-profit sector. Holding degrees in Architectural Design and the Visual Arts, she is also a highly accomplished interdisciplinary artist with a diverse exhibition portfolio.
Katy’s artistic contributions have earned her numerous accolades, including two Canberra Critics Circle awards (2017, 2014), the Michael Hobbs OAM People’s Choice Award (2020) for her interactive work “Panopticon” featured in the Contour556 Public Art Biennial, and the prestigious Rosalie Gascoigne Memorial Award (2018). Her works are housed in both public and private collections, including The Australian War Memorial, Bega Valley Regional Gallery, Curtin University Collection WA, Gippsland Art Gallery and The State Library of Victoria.
