CSE has different membership options to suit all levels of editing experience, from those with an interest in the profession to experienced editors. All our members enjoy access to general meetings (in person and online), training and professional development at member rates, mentoring opportunities and a regular newsletter. Full professional members are also eligible for inclusion in the CSE directory of freelancers and have full voting rights at meetings.
Each membership year starts from the date you are accepted as a member of the society and have paid your fees in full. Please contact us if you have questions about the best membership option for you.
Full professional membership is open to anyone currently engaged professionally in editing or publishing, or who has had such experience in the past. Professional members are eligible for inclusion in the freelance register and may vote, be elected to the society's committee and hold an executive office bearing role. All applications are assessed by the society’s management committee.
Associate membership is open to anyone interested in the activities of CSE. Student membership is available only to full time students. Associate and student members can be elected to the CSE committee, but may not vote or hold an office bearing position. Associate and student members are not eligible for inclusion in the freelance register.
Corporate associate membership is open to any organisation that supports the aims of the society. Corporate associates may advertise in the newsletter at members’ rates. Up to five staff members of corporate associates may attend the society’s workshops at members’ rates but may not vote or hold office in the society or be listed in the society’s freelance register.
