The new IPED Standards for editing practice

Since IPEd’s inception, its Standards for Editing Practice has been a foundational document for the organisation. It sets out the knowledge and skills — the core standards — that professional editors should meet and that new editors should aspire to, and it is the basis of the accreditation exam. The Standards also help training providers to devise course materials and tell employers and clients what to expect of the editors they hire.In this session, Kerry will present a ‘fireside chat’ about the evolution of the third edition of the Standards, including the following topics:

  • Outline of the process, 2011–12 compared with 2021–24
  • The working party
  • Initial submissions
  • Specialist reviews
  • IPEd Board and Accreditation Board input
  • Feedback rounds
  • Formats
